    Japanese Google Streetview

    google-street-japan

This is exactly how Google Streetview works! This is actually made by Google to explain the privacy concerns Japanese residents have. It’s pretty cute I must say.

    Japanese Culture plus Robots

Asimo rules! :) The following video titled ‘Japan: Robot Nation‘ was a fascinating documentary. Even though I knew most of the situation the journalist, Adam Yamaguchi, talked about in the video, it was still great to watch it. The video covers the cause of declining birth rate in Japan and how the robots can possibly be used to help the Japanese in the future. Watch the video and share your thoughts!

The problem with robots is that there’s a fine line between “oh cool, he looks almost like a person” and “oh shi- it’s that creepy robot again!”. I don’t think robots should look like people because the more realistic they get, the more creepy the whole things becomes.

The creator that made a robot of himself creations looked very real. The voice needs some work, doesn’t sound real, but the look and blinking eyes are amazing. A very enjoyable documentary about Japan and it’s robots.

    • Setai Miami 8:34 am on May 6, 2009 Permalink | Reply

In a highly civilized society (like Japan) robots could indeed be a valuable addition to the society as a whole. Still the Japanese need to realize that no robot is going to breed for them and they need to rejuvenate their society somehow. Robots can only cure the symptoms, not the illness.

Keeping technology aside, i feel this is alarming. robots can never be human beings & hence should not be a replacement for Human beings. Considering the technology, it is great and the robots appear as if they are human beings.

This robot is just creepy. There’s a fine line between “oh cool it looks almost like people” and “oh god what the hell is wrong with that person?! What’s up with this blank and empty stare?!”. And Japanese unfortunately already crossed that line.

Squeeze My Boobs and Prevent AIDS!

… The entry flap of one booth is labeled with the kanji character pronounced ushiro (behind) and colored pink, the other is yellow and marked oppai (breast). Outside is a line of five men, each of whom is eagerly awaiting his turn to grab (with both hands) the bare buttocks and breasts of two adult video (AV) actresses five times for 1,000 yen – with all the proceeds being used for research to prevent the spread of the HIV virus and AIDS. …

    (via tokyoreporter)

So…. 1000 yen is about $10. Would you spend it to help spread the word about AIDS?

I hope this is not the way to raise the funds. Preventing HIV can be done by making people aware of this disease. And letting them know about the preventive measures.
This is not at all a fare method to follow.

    Japanese Gravure Champion -Yuko Ogura

    yuko_ogura

I am not that familiar with the whole Japanese Gravure scene. I do know couple of names such as Sola Aoi, etc..

With Japan boasting such tantalising titles as best Jeanist and Nailist, it’s perhaps not surprising then to see that online entertainment site ZAKZAK has created the Japanese Gravure Idol Award. A prize that finally gives the nation’s hard-working bikini models the recognition they so richly deserve, with the judges taking into consideration the likes of photo album sales and media exposure, along with an ample number of other assets.

    (via tokyotimes)

No matter what kind of contest it is, it is got to be great to be number one, right? Here is a short video I found on youtube.

    Killing Spree in Japan

“I will go to Disneyland to stab visitors to death,” the 19-year-old wrote, according to a police official in Chiba, the suburban area where the amusement park is located.

    (via cnn)

He made the threat online but was caught before he had the chance to do anything. And apparently he was not the only crazy person. There was a person who slashed people on a busy street.

The message, posted on a Web site by someone using a cell phone on June 15, came a week after a man posted similar warnings before killing seven people in a downtown Tokyo knifing rampage. Authorities were also searching for a woman suspected of wounding three people in a knifing incident Sunday.

What a crazy world we live in..
