      Wooo! Awesomenessssss!

      I’m really happy that I won, and while I know that would have been a less likely outcome, I wish there was a better turnout for this contest. It’s almost Pyhrric. Happy to see luck was on the side of those who donated, although it was great that people promoted the drive too.

      Thanks a lot, Andy! Maybe when your blog gets more notoriety a donation drive will work out much better.

      This entry makes me sad. =( Although, I didn’t realize until now that promoting the contest counts as an entry (I must have missed that). O_o I would have put it on my third, similarly-named blog! But that gets literally zero traffic.

      I thought there were more donations. I’m hoping there’s something up with Paypal, especially since they had that $50 back deal on Cyber Monday? I could have sworn more people donated.

      Hey, I mean, better chances for those who did, but still kind of wish more people donated. =/

    Donation Drive Update #1

    The original post can be found at
    http://www.zr5.net/2007/11/11/the-asia-foundation-2008-charity/

    I got contacted by Jeanne HuangLi who is the current Associate Director at The Asia Foundation. If you have any questions regarding the foundation, you can email her directly at jhuangli@asiafound.org. Don’t worry, I got her permission to post her email address. :)

    This is for a great cause so please spread the words to everyone. Contact your favorite blogs and websites and make them aware of this donation drive. Remember, the more people donate, you can win more prizes!

    So here are some words from Jeanne.

    2008 is going to be our “Year of Knowledge” and we will be working on an online exhibit with information around our Books for Asia Program which provides over $30 million in in-kind, first quality books to universities, schools, and libraries throughout Asia.

    At The Asia Foundation, we believe in societies that give people the chance to succeed without regard to gender or circumstance and in governments that respond to all citizens. We believe in the unlimited capacity of knowledge to enlighten, and in the ability of empowered communities to overcome poverty and despair. The Asia Foundation is committed to creating enduring opportunity in the Asia-Pacific region, and to helping Asia’s people reach their goals. This is our mission and our promise.

    Your contribution in any amount to The Asia Foundation is an investment in the people and promise of Asia.

    We thank you for your interest and support. If you have any questions, please contact:

    The Asia Foundation – 2008 Charity

    Background Story

    I have been donating for the last couple of years to many different charities. That is before I started a blog. Since now I have a blog and you come back everyday(thank you. :) ), I thought why not try to get more donations and make it interesting too! That’s why I decided to collect donations from you (my kind and giving readers) and donate a big chunk of change to a charity. And to make things interesting to you, why not have a contest?

    Charity of Choice for 2008

    This year’s charity is going to be The Asia Foundation. There are couple of reasons why I chose this foundation over others. One of the reason is that this is an international Asia foundation rather than for a specific country. Even though many of you are from the US, the majority of you are not. Also after my research, The Asia Foundation received high honors from many different organizations and groups.

    What is The Asia Foundation?
    The Asia Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to the development of a peaceful, prosperous, just, and open Asia-Pacific region. Since 1954, the Foundation has been working on the ground, collaborating with hundreds of governmental and nongovernmental partners across Asia. In 2006, the Foundation provided more than $53 million in program support and distributed 920,000 books and educational materials valued at $30 million throughout Asia.

    What types of programs does The Asia Foundation support?
    Through staff expertise, cooperation with local partners, and a long history in the region, the Foundation brings distinctive insights on local issues and has successfully implemented thousands of programs that benefit current and future generations. Program areas include:

    * Economic reform and development
    * Law and governance reform
    * Elections
    * Human rights
    * Women’s programs
    * The environment
    * International relations
    * Information and communications technology
    * Exchanges

    The Incentive

    So why should you donate? Well, you can donate couple of dollars out of your pocket to help and educate people in Asia as well as the world. However, if you need more incentive than that, here it is. I am offering 2 prizes with the sponsorship from iWeddingBand.com. On December 12, 2007 I will randomly choose 2 winners. If the total donation amount goes over $500, I will personally add new prizes to both winners.

    Prize 1
    Flower Dangle Pendant (14K Two Tone Gold)
    iWeddingBand.com Special Price $176
    iweddingband Flower Dangle Pendant

    Prize 2
    Freshwater Cultured Pearl & 14K Yellow Heart Bracelet
    iWeddingBand.com Special Price $134
    iweddingband pearl bracelet gold heart

    Optional Prize
    The additional prize if the total goes over $500. This prize is one per winner.
    Crystal Globe on Silver Stand with Clock
    Crystal Globe on Silver Stand with Clock

    Rules – Just donate at least a $1 and your name and email will be entered for the drawing. When you donate over $20, your name will be entered into the drawing 2 times.

    Site Owners – For site owners, you have the chance to get one additional entry for the drawing. Just spread the word of this contest (by mentioning this contest on your site) and you will be entered automatically. You must send trackback or leave comment with your page URL.

    How to Donate
    It’s very simple. You can send me your donation via paypal to andy@zr5.net or click on the Paypal logo on the top of the sidebar.

    I will make a new post every weekend and list all the people and websites that have donated.

    The End
    When the winners are chosen on December 12, 2007, I will announce the winners and send them an email requesting their address. Depending on when they actually get back to me, I can send out the prizes as early as the 17th. The prizes will be great Christmas gifts! :)

      Wow! What a great incentive! I closed my paypal account long ago due to lack of use and I didn’t want a constantly changing policy to have access to my money while I wasn’t paying attention.

      Any other ways to pay before I decide to reopen? lol

      That globe looks very cool, how big is it?

    • andy 6:09 pm on November 13, 2007 Permalink | Reply

      The globe is not that big since it’s made for a work desk. When I get home tonight, I will try to find out the dimensions.

      The globe seems to be out of stock right now. Hopefully it will be back in stock in a month.

      sollee: I am pretty sure that paypal is offered in your country. check out this link.

    • AzureWolf 5:23 pm on November 14, 2007 Permalink | Reply

      Hey, I sent you an e-mail through the contact link here. Get back to me when you can, ok? Thanks! =D

    • andy 6:17 pm on November 14, 2007 Permalink | Reply

      Azurewolf: I just realized that the contact form was not functioning correctly. Can you send me the email again? my email is andy at zr5.net Thanks!

    • AzureWolf 9:57 am on November 16, 2007 Permalink | Reply

      Did you ever get my e-mail? I think it is too late to get my donation in time now, but here is a copy of what I wrote (sent via gmail, not the contact form this time):

      Hey, how you doing. I just check the comments right now (what
      happened to the e-mail notices for new comments? I loved those!).
      Anyway, I would much rather prefer to send a check than opening up a
      Paypal account. If that’s ok with you, please let me know who I make
      the check out to, and the address I need to send it to. I’ll send it
      out ASAP when I get that information.

      If you are wondering, I intend to make a donation of $10. It’s the
      least a disgruntled graduate student can give! lol

      You got a great site, and thanks for conveniencing me like this. I’m
      glad you are keeping your site alive, unlike other startups. I don’t
      know what charm your random Asian site has, but it’s fun to visit.

      See you around,
      Azure

    • andy 4:07 pm on November 16, 2007 Permalink | Reply

      Sorry about that. I did receive your email. I just forgot to reply back. I will definitely do it tonight. You still have plenty of time as this ends on 12/12/2007.

    • AzureWolf 6:38 pm on November 16, 2007 Permalink | Reply

      Oh, you should clarify that. I thought the drawing is done then and the deadline is this weekend (should have read that clearer). Usually there is some gap between the deadline and the actual drawing.

      Ok, that’s cool then. Take your time.
