    World’s Smallest Ramen Bowl

Because science has nothing better to do, talented Japanese scientists have created the world’s smallest Ramen Bowl.  It’s not really ramen, but carbon-based nanotubes.  Still very impressive (and pointless) stuff.

    nano-ramen

Japanese scientists say they have used cutting-edge technology to create a noodle bowl so small, it can be seen only through a microscope.

The bowl was revealed Thursday after it was entered for a microphotography competition this month.

Mechanical engineering professor Masayuki Nakao said Thursday that he and his students at the University of Tokyo used a carbon-based material to produce a noodle bowl with a diameter of 1/25,000 of an inch.

Science is indeed an art, I guess…  But hey, if something this small can be seen, then there’s hope for me with the ladies. 8-)

    Cannibal Cake!

Ever have those times when you’re hanging out that special someone, and your gut is telling you the moment is right?  Finally, you suck it up and say, “Girl!  You’re good enough to eat!  I mean in a Hannibal sort of way.”  You know she understands you, but social standards prohibit you from pursuing the relationship to its fullest.

So what’s a cannibal to do when love and hunger collide?!

Well, straight from Japan, comes the solution:

    Good enough to eat?

From a technical perspective, this is a pretty cool “banquet.”  From every other standpoint, “what the hell?”  I actually recommend reading the details over at Inventorspot, but there are… “naked” photos of the…  you get the idea.

Would any of you be interested in this?  How do you keep your appetite?!  Based on the amount of shot glasses lying around the table, the answer is apparently a 0.5 BAC.

      Have you seen the movie Alive w/c starred Ethan Hawke (based on a true story)….when survivors from a plane crash had to eat some of their buddies in order to survive at Andes mountain?…. I still remember how one character in the movie cut some human meat from a dead frozen body and put it in his mouth…Oh…I cried when I saw that scene but then he had to survive….So maybe if I would join in that banquet I would imagine things hehe…^^;

Kyaraben – The Art of Lunch Box Prep

    japanese-lunch-box

In Japan, it’s all about presentation when making character lunches. It is called “Kyaraben” (キャラクター弁当), or “Charaben”, and goes beyond simply making the meal look appetizing.

Most Kyaraben are made by mothers, who want to make their children’s lunches more appealing by arranging the contents of the Bento (lunch box) into their favorite cartoon characters or super heroes.

    (via weirdasianews)

Am I not understanding this art called Kyaraben? It just seems like they are wasting their time. But I have the tendency to think everything I don’t understand as waste of time. :)

I think it is good for kids. I remember being addicted to Hi-C Liquid Ecto Cooler just because it had Slimer on it. I probably liked it even if it tasted awful.

Doesn’t make sense to me now, but it did back then.

    • jeni 5:00 pm on May 21, 2008 Permalink | Reply

i think it’s cute. i have a bento but since i don’t need to bring a lunch anymore it goes unused most of the time.

on livejournal it looks like there are a bunch of white people who are trying to make bento lunches, some of them look nice, but others include tiny pieces of food jammed into a tupperware container which isn’t exactly what you’re supposed to do.

    • Apple 8:05 pm on May 21, 2008 Permalink | Reply

I’ve seen lots of such pictures and I, too, don’t understand the art. I mean, those Kyaraben are too good to be eaten. How can you put kawaii things into your mouth? I believe it takes lots of time to prepare such bento.

Glad I’m not the only one who drank Hi-C just because Slimer was on the box, like AzureWolf said :P Cute bento creations :)

I belive the bentos are mostlly to entice there kids into eating some healther stuff, I had 2 kids in my daycare I use to valenter at who always came with bentos the mother made sure of the little girls (Ray) on because she had some major food allergies (milk, wheat gluton, peanuts, strawberrys, and sugars (diabetic)) and her lunches would have looked like a pile o poo if her mom hadnt dressed them up, and she even made a ‘large bento’ for the summer picknic (a big tray of food acceptable for Ray to eat) that was absultly gorgous and she said it didnt take that much time she usaly made the bentos while she was cooking there dinners

but besides health reasons they where just fun lunches and even thou I am not Japannes I know when I have kids I will probly try to dress up there lunchs so they are appeling and they want to eat them

btw that HiC with slimer on it was nasty I rember it I would always ask for it in the store and then never drink it because it was gross/bitter/sour

My fav way to make them was to boil just the noodles then after they are soft, drop them in the frying pan and crack a couple of eggs over the top. Dash of soy and there you have a wonderful meal! anyway, thanks for th etopic, that was good…now I’m hungry…

I like noodles very much especially Asian Ramen Noodles.Instant noodles are dried or precooked noodles fused with oil, and often sold with a packet of flavoring.Dried noodles are usually eaten after being cooked or soaked in boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes, while precooked noodles can be reheated, or eaten straight from the packet. Although similar products were available in dynastic China, modern instant noodles were invented by Momofuku Andō of Nissin Foods.

The idea of instant noodles can be traced back to the Chinese Qing Dynasty, when yimian noodles were deep-fried which allowed them to be stored for long periods and then prepared quickly.Similarly, “Chicken Thread Noodles” were available in China and Taiwan since the Qing Dynasty.Instant noodles were the most important Japanese invention of the century.Instant noodles are not only popular with college students, they can also be an economic indicator.
