The number eight is auspicious in Chinese, as it is pronounced like the word “fa”, which is part of the expression meaning “to get wealthy”.

“Chinese people are keen to tie the knot on an auspicious date,” Xinhua news agency added. “The opening date of the Olympics adds new meaning.

“Marriage registration offices in Beijing predict more than 9,000 couples will get married on Aug. 8 this year,” it said.

I don’t know about them but getting married on the day of the Olympics does not add any significance to the date. The date of 8-8-8 does sound very unique though. The date of 9-9-09 will be a hot date to get married also.

    1. I think 9-9-09 is better. 9 is pronounced as “jiu” which has the same pronounciation for the word “long, forever” in Chinese. So a triple 9 means “ever after”.

    2. What if it’s 10-10-10….it would mean perfection to the max…..but wait if you translate ten in Roman numerals…oh no it sounds really bad so I’ll go with 8-8-8 or 9-9-9…^^;

    3. too bad 9-9-09 is on a wednesday and 10-10-10 is on a sunday, however; 11-11-11 is on a Friday.
