zon-chinese

Zon is an unique interactive massively multiplayer online role playing game for learning Mandarin Chinese.

By interacting in the Zon environment you will be exposed to Chinese language and cultural knowledge in a new and exciting way. Everything that you do in the game is another chance to learn new words, phrases and cultural info about China. Never before has learning Chinese been more fun.

The nice part about Zon is it is all browser based. No client applications are required, so you can log in and play from school, work or home. Zon is a persistant environment, so when you log off, the world still keeps going.

As you progress through the game, your character graduates from the tourist class, to a resident of Zon and then finally a citizen, where you can own businesses and create new content for the world.

A fun way of learning a new language is always good. Has anyone tried this game yet?

    1. Oh, I love to learn new language. This seems to be a fun way to learn languages. I still remember LiveMocha which is mentioned in this blog earlier. But with such game interaction, I believe it will be more fun during the learning process. Wondering if there’s any similar game for learning the Japanese language?

      I’m a Mandarin speaker so this game should be easy for me. Guess it will be really useful for my non-Mandarin speaking boyfriend. Thanks for sharing. :)

    2. I have been meaning to give this a try, but totally forgot about it! Thanks for reminding me.

      @Apple
      They offer Japanese over at LiveMocha… It’s not as fun, obviously, but I prefer it over the other free sites. You might want to try out Mango Languages, but for me, it felt a little too slow and too redundant. It didn’t fly through the material fast enough, not a speedy enough immersion. Although, I can see the value of it’s teaching method for more advanced people…
