Prostitution in Afghanistan
Determined to support her mother, two sisters and young brother, she turned to a profession that has long been practiced the world over but remains deeply suppressed in conservative Afghanistan — prostitution.
“I had no other way but prostitution,” says the pretty teenager, dressed in tight blue jeans with a black veil pulled loosely over her head.
“I get up early in the morning and wander around the city,” she said, at first reluctant to discuss her work. “My customers stop me and give me a lift and then we talk about the price,” she explains, her face coated in make-up.

“I had no other way but prostitution”. I have heard those words spoken many times before. Since I am not in their shoes, I don’t know if that’s true. However, I do know that some people do go into prostitution because they believe that they do not have any other way out.
I am really sad to see and hear that people, especially children, are being forced into this kind of life. As you can probably see it in the picture above, “Abuse through prostitution, steals children’s lives”
I posted a similar story before about a Korean girl getting sold into prostitution because of her large credit card debt. (you can read the post here)
I always try not to judge other people’s decisions because if I was in their shoes, I might make the same decisions. What are your thoughts on the story?

I think there is some truth to it. I mean, there are layers and people too lazy to try, but at the core, there are people desperate enough to do it.
If there was no demand for such a vice, then this wouldn’t be something that would be forced. And if the demand didn’t exist, greedy people who take advantage of desperate or ignorant people would not do this. Sometimes, someone is perfectly well-off, but someone’s got their eye on them and force them into a situation where prostitution is the only way out.
And the layers just pile up on that. It’s just easier to this in third-world countries or those who are not first-class citizens.

As you said it’s the oldest profession…there are low class prostitutes and even high class prostitutes…Azure was right, there are greedy people who take advantage on them…During the stay of the US bases in my hometown prostitution was rampant….it’s a form of a business….So how could we stop such a thing from happening even to a Muslim country…

It is impossible to stop prostitution, not in this kind of world. As long as there is poverty, there will be prostitution. And there will not have to be pimps, actually. Women themselves decide to do it once they realize there is no other way out, or other options seems to hard, to distant, to impossible.
I’ve been talking with many girls who are involved in this and I was surprised with some facts. There are many of them who actually don’t mind it. There are many stories. Some of them get bored with one man, others love sex, the style of life and there are simply those who don’t see anything wrong with it. It is a business, they say. They get married when they decide to quit. I was surprised, but I guess everything happens.
It’s just that there are still too many girls who are forced into this, one way or another. Problem is – poverty.

I totally agree with “knife dude”, you can do nothing about prostitution, and then again, in Sweden prostitution is illegal, and has been for long time, for a period, whenever someone got caught with a prostitute AND the guy was married, the police brought him home to his wife and told the wife that her husband was caught with a prostitute – very effective way, can you imagine? But what about all the singles.

It looks like very odd when we talk about such region and such prostitute. Perhaps that is the only way of earning for a large number of women on this planet. I feel deep sorrow and grief.

Its really no their wish to work as prostitutes.
Most of them were forced to work whereas some work to feed their families….
The age of the children(boys and girls) forced to work as prostitutes re getting younger and younger….
And adults(perverts) whom goes overseas(eg. third world countries)(cos its cheaper and had more variates) to find prostitutes re also increasing.
Sigh~
