Bboy Documentary Cites Koreans as Untouchable

Bboying was what made me realize that Korean was not just another word for “people with sexy eyes,” but an entire race. One of the under-appreciated parts of Hallyu is Korea’s influence and takeover of the breakdancing phenomenon that originated in the Bronx. A new video documentary, Planet B-Boy, has a few parts dedicated to Korean bboys’ influence to the dance, the demographic of Korean bboys, and even Korea’s perception of bboys.

Planet B-Boy: Korea

On a technical level, there is nobody that could touch the Koreans… nobody

So true, now if only they could hit the beat!

It did take five years for Korea to hit the map, making amazing waves, having DJs and MCs shout “my friends I have NEVER seen anything like this before!” but the tidal wave was when my favorite crew, Gambler, headed by my favorite bboy, Darkness, took home Battle of the Year in 2004, the international bboy competition. Unfortunately, a lot of internal drama and external influences have really kept Gambler (and their branch, Gamblerz) out of the limelight since then, but that’s another story…

I was actually going to watch the documentary when it aired in NY, but life caught up with me and kicked me between the legs. Then proceeded to kick me while I was down. Then doused me with gas and set me on fire. But it was ok: a bboy stepped it up on me, putting the fire out. Is there anything these guys can’t do?

Planet B-Boy is still airing in a few cities, and then should be available to download buy legitimately. If you get a chance to see it, let us know how it is.
