Cloned Sniffer Dogs - Toppy
Apr 19th, 2008 | By andy | Category: Featured Articles, MISCI really am not a fan of cloned dogs. As a matter of fact, I’m not a big fan of cloning. I realize it can help and save lives, but it just doesn’t sit well with me. Anyway, according to Digital Chosunilbo, Korean customs service is training cloned dogs. What do you guys think about this?
Six white male dogs collectively named Toppy reported for duty at a training facility for sniffer dogs run by the Korea Customs Service in Yeongjongdo, Incheon on Thursday morning. Chase, the father of the dogs, and his six sons look exactly the same — because the sons were cloned, born to surrogate mothers via the transfer of the nucleui of Chase’s somatic cells. The cloning project was carried out by a team of Seoul National University veterinarians led by Lee Byeong-chun — a member of the disgraced cloning expert Hwang Woo-suk’s team, who was believed to have invented the method.

Cloning for both humans and animals is a no no for me too..whatever reasons they have i just don’t think it’s right for both creatures…
I don’t have a problem with the benefits of cloning per say, but the fact that they will live an accelerated, short, life is really sad. Look at Dolly, who got old really fast and died. They will suffer the same fate since they were taken from somatic cells. It’s a terrible thing to put on a being that had no choice in the matter. Babies at least have a chance for a healthy life.
I’m not surprised this happened first in Korea, though. They seem to be the most open-minded (for lack of a better word) about this type of technology.
I have´nt a problem with it.. I think its the question of the future!
I didn’t realize the UN approved cloning…
I don’t approve of cloning entire humans. Animals I wouldn’t mind if it’s to save a species, but only when the technology improves. I hate to see an animal suffer.
The dogs in the background are very sweet.
This is getting more and more interesting as the years go on. Remember a few years back when Dolly the sheep was cloned, and we were wondering just how far it would go?
It would go as far as to clone people in order to harvest them for organs or to use in military practices. Cloning is a geek’s method of having kids without having intercourse.
Although i can understand need for cloning experiments as the way to improve knowledge in certain fields of science, and possible allow treatment of certain conditions and diseases, it seems very cruel to me that those animals(I really wouldn’t comment on human cloning experiments as I see them as utterly wrong) as AzureWolf mentioned simply don’t have a chance for anything close to normal life due to all complications that will lead to their premature death.
No doubt cloning is the way to the future, and will save countless lives, but it still does not settle in with us religious people
I agree with you. Clone technology has both sides also. The good side is that it can do help save some precious species. However, the kind of way is not natural. If the technology is used in a wrong way, it will be a disaster of the Earth. We are quite familiar with those scenarios in various films.
