LiveMocha Featured in Korean News

Apr 18th, 2008 | By AzureWolf | Category: MISC

Two months ago, the language learning website LiveMocha was featured in several news media, both in print and online. Since then, the Korean base has swelled because of the promise of talking and learning English from a foreigner. It has gotten so big that the creators will be adding Korean “soon.”

You can read more about the website over at Daum.net. Or you can take a look at my account. If you register, you can add me, but I warn you, unless you fulfill the following requirements, I will not accept your request:

  • You are Asian
  • You are hot
  • You are looking for a relationship

The website pushes for the social aspect strongly. In fact, when you log in, you will see people who both know and are learning your target languages. You can see a few social review samples here, here, and here. As you can see by the “I don’t know what you’re saying is that supposed to be Chinese” remarks, the only problem with the social aspect is not enough people know English. They obviously meant to say “your Chinese is so beautiful I am in love.”

Whatever your reason for learning another language (dating, dating, or just a relationship), my personal experience with LiveMocha has been positive. It’s rocky at first, and can become too taxing if you try to be a teacher to everyone, but the lesson methods (seeing, hearing, listening, reading, writing, & speaking) mixed with actually trying these out on real people feels very productive.
