Philippines - Gucci Gang Controversy
Apr 2nd, 2008 | By AzureWolf | Category: Celebrity NewsThis event is pretty old, but it didn’t explode until ABS-CBN Newchannel TV blew it up to mass media on March 27th. An Australian I never heard of, Brian Gorell, lost $70k to his ex-lover for a restaurant. They were supposed to make it together, but it never manifested, and Gorell has the transfer documents to back up his claim.
So he took it upon himself to reveal scandalous photos and stories of DJ Montano and his friends until he gets his money back. Here’s an excerpt from the Wikipedia article (which is locked for editing, surprisingly):
The Gucci Gang controversy is a series of events that involved an Australian blogger Brian Gorrell who published his accusation against his former boyfriend of swindling him of money totaling US$70,000.[1][2] Gorrell’s blog, which was first published on March 4, 2008, has also accused his ex’s well-to-do friends, whom he tagged as “Gucci Gang”, of attempting to cover up the deed and striking back at him.[3] The blog has since become a major gossip topic in Philippines‘ capital city Manila, exposing its high-society youths’ alleged freeloading lifestyle and addiction to cocaine.[4][5] It has also tested Philippine and Australian online libel laws, and raised questions about the extent of freedom of speech in blogging.[6][7][8]
The blog was taken down for a day and returned, but with comments disabled.
Personally, I don’t know what the big deal is, or who the people involved are. However, people have been calling it bigger than the previously-mentioned Edison Chan Sex Scandal.

I heard of that controversy just last night..heard too that the australian was sick..hope he could recover from it..well, you don’t kick a man when he’s down that’s all i could say..
I hadn’t heard of this. How wild! I suppose the guy was smart to do this as his case is now being heard. Just goes to show you the sheer power of the blogosphere!!!
Blogs have become so powerful now. Another blog was outting a cab driver for stealing his sidekick, after awhile the cab driver went to jail.
First time I’ve heard of this story though… I guess it’s not that widespread…
@azure:hi i’ve visited buhay sa korea and saw your blog..i like your Q and A portion..so funny..why don’t you use the Q and A here at andy’s blog?
@sollee
haha, I am glad you like it. I did not make up that feature, though. Vox has a Question of the Day that users submit (btw, if you register there, I can add you as a neighbor and you can see my other posts).
But I think I see potential for it on this site, it just needs to be about Asian news and not about me since this is not a personal blog. Maybe people ask my opinion about celebrities or something…
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll think about it and run it by andy.
Tnx a lot my friend..i’ll be glad to be your neighbor..btw you’re doing good as a writer, keep it up!
dear azure my friend..why is it so hard for me to register at vox?..can’t confirm my email add..T_T poor me..
@sollee
Haha, I do not know what the problem is. Try using a gmail account for registering, and check your spam mail.
I am not sure whether you don’t get the e-mail, or the link within the e-mail doesn’t work, but I think both problems can be solved by using gmail.
Also, if you need further help, just e-mail me with SAME-NAME-AS-HERE-at-gmail-dot-com
Brian Gorell is starting to get his money back he put a donate button on his site as well as publicity.
And now the people know that not all is well in the lives of the rich and famous.
Man, they’re just trying to create a buzz in the blogosphere. That’s what it’s all about: gossip and money.
