Sushi Art
In an effort to promote the publication of his new book on decorative delectables, Japanese sushi chef and show off, Ken Kawasumi, opted to recreate Van Gogh’s Sunflowers with sushi. Which, while far from a facsimile, is still a fair effort considering it’s made of fish.

They look so appetizing. Maybe it’s because I’m hungry right now. What do you guys think about these sushi?

Fantastic! I admire Van Gogh and his paintings, but looking at this is another reason for being his fan! Thanks Ken Kawasumi

This is awesome! – in a cannibalistic sort of way. When I get the chance, I’m going to make a special request and present the chef with photos of all my enemies. Then I’ll eat them… one by one… Slowly, painfully.
Who are you going to bump into on the trains now, old lady for whom I wouldn’t give up my seat for?!

I know there’s always something interesting with food. They’re not just appetizing but they also make a great subject for some artistic presentations. No wonder chefs are fond of making visually appealing creations out of their menu.

I keep seeing these type of pictures, but it isn’t that common. I wonder if we’ll start seeing more and more of it around. The next fad?

That’s some pretty amazing skill with the “painting”!!! Awesome pictures…. Sushi is a famous Japanese cuisine made from fish, rice, vinegar… The secret in the preparation of sushi is the fermentation and preservation of fish with rice and salt….

Very interesting, but this sort of thing is very very common in Japan – you can even buy them in convenience stores.
BTW – ’sushi’ is not made of fish. Sushi is rice with added ingredients (sometimes with fish and sometimes without). You are thinking of ’sashimi’ – which is generally, but not always, fish.

Kage Tora is right. It is very common in Japan, and it is called “Deco-sushi” or “Chara-sushi” from the Japanese:)
And, not only the sushi craftsman but also mamas are making like that sushi recently. (But, it is “Chara-ben (Character bento)” mainly that mamas make…)
Anyway, it is very kawaii sushi!

I’m surprised that I haven’t seen these in the local Japanese market here in Los Angeles. Seems like something artistic and fun many moms would put in a kid’s lunch.
