‘200 lb beauty’ breaks record set by ‘The Host’
May 11th, 2007 | By andy | Category: MovieNow we all know that beautiful girl can topple a monster. According to this Korean site, (http://www.newsen.com/news_view.php?news_uid=135255), the movie 200 lb beauty(미녀는 괴로워) broke a record set by the movie(괴물). Even though it happened in Singapore, that stat alone is just amazing. All of the posts I made on this site related to the movie, including pictures of Kim Ah Joong(김아중), have been the most visited and downloaded pages. Was the movie that good? It was an entertaining movie but it wasn’t THAT good.
i’ve watch both on dvd, i think 200lb has a sweeter taste after you watch it, than the host, which has a ‘bitter’ ending…
though, the host does have the typical blockbuster scheme… it has a very good cg. even collaborated with WETA workshop who produced LOTR…
but you wont laugh watching that, whereas you’d be laughing alot watching 200lbs… it on many aspects has better entertainment value… though, even on higher scale, it is ‘just’ a short movie with some laugh stock and sweet drama…
but 200lbs breaks korean box office for two office, who can tell, huh..
I liked 200 lbs better than the host too. I’ve read somewhere that they are making the host 2.
I watched it and it was average romantic comedy for me. No biggie. But then again, Asia is totally different market…
You are absolutely right. Same movie in America might not have been successful.
ive watched 200 lbs beauty .. it has various reasons to beat the host… one reason i see is it tackles every girl’s dilemma…
It can’t be true that EVERY girl thinks about plastic surgery. or do they?
oh….i didnt mean that every girl thinks about plastic surgery… i meant every girl’s dilemma which also includes “how to dress, how to look good, how to have a good figure, how to fix the hair.. how to please my boyfriend… etc.. etc..” ^.^ for the one they love… and let’s face it, men want their girl to look good.. as many surgeons and beauty experts around say “with the technology we have today, there is no reason to be ugly” so women have become more conscious about how they look for one for the one they love… ^.^ and taking advantage of the advanced procedures is a yes for me if it will help the person boost her or his personality, confidence, and improve her or his life..
“with the technology we have today, there is no reason to be uglyâ€
But it’s little bit scary at the same time.
That is a good sales pitch.
yeah.. actually it is… but for those who are experiencing what hanna did in the movie, well it really is a risk they have to take..
and in real life, those who are not good looking are often ridiculed.. so we cannot also blame them if they undergo a make-over- which i think they deserve if it will improve their lives..
in the movie, it might have shown how hanna really wanted the make-over so she could live normally… but in the end, it was not all about the benefits of the surgery that she went through…. it was all about coming to terms with herself, accepting herself, and loving herself..
this is one reason, i think, why the movie became a hit..
i also watched the host and just the same, the events were predictable.. however, people just really wanted to see a feel-good movie that’s why the 200 lbs beauty broke the host’s record.. i guess… kekeke
