Michelle Wie, nicknamed the “10 million dollar baby,” saw a long-cherished dream realized when she received an e-mail saying that she has been admitted to Stanford University, one of the most prestigious universities in the U.S. and Tiger Woods’ alma mater, AP reported Wednesday.

Having made her professional debut at 16 last year, Wie attends Punahou High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. She had been so nervous about the admission results that she had some gastric trouble, reports said. When she checked the e-mail at her school computer lab after taking the final exam, she was so thrilled she let out a shriek of joy.

Stanford is a university many high school athletes favor. Besides Woods, New York Yankees’ pitcher Mike Mussina studied economics there. Wie plans to study economics, business or marketing.

Having tried on the PGA tour to break the gender barrier in golf, Wie recently donated US$25,000 to the Travis Hearn Fund for paralyzed high school football player Travis Hearn.
